Julie Knight has always wanted to work in schools. “From the moment that I learned there was a place called school, I have wanted to be a part of that environment,” said the Utsalady Elementary School teacher.
Knight has been a part of Stanwood-Camano schools for 25-years and touched the lives of countless students, colleagues, and parents. She finds a way to individualize learning for students by relating it to topics they are interested in.
This spring while meeting with a student, Knight discovered the boy’s love of reptiles. So she purchased some books about reptiles, bought him a composition book and some pens and pencils then placed them all in a container that is meant to be a home for a lizard if the boy wanted to eventually get one.

Keeping Utsalady Safe!
Volunteer/Visitor Guidelines and Expectations
Utsalady Elementary encourages volunteers and visitors in their hallways, classroom and on field trips…. however, we take the safety of each of our students very seriously.
With this in mind, any adult that interacts with our students (visitor, volunteer, on playground, at lunch, on field trips, attending parties, etc...) must have a current Washington State Patrol (WSP) background check.
Any adult that does not have a WSP background check will not be allowed to participate in the above events.
Adults without a WSP background check, are allowed to:
1. Attend Assemblies / Choir Concerts
2. Pick up / Drop off child
3. Attend conferences and/or any meeting with the staff
Any activity where an adult volunteer/visitor is interacting with students other than their own, will need a WSP background check.
If an adult is in our hallways at Utsalady and is not wearing a volunteer tag, they will be stopped and asked to sign in at the office.
The office staff will sign you in and out and provide you with a tag so each staff member knows you have followed the proper procedures.
These guidelines are in place to protect YOUR child and all students at Utsalady Elementary.
If you are wondering whether or not you have had a background check, stop by in the office and they will be glad to look it up!
Thank you for supporting our school.
