Utsalady Elementary is located on beautiful Camano Island. Built in 2000, we are the pride and joy of Camano. We currently serve around 400 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Teachers and staff at Utsalady Elementary believe in the potential of every child. With this in mind we have many programs in place to help each child feel connected to their school, staff and peers. These programs include Morning Announcements, Color Guard, Extra Mile, Peer Buddies and Platinum Players, which are all ways for students to be recognized for making good choices and contributing to a positive learning environment at Utsalady.
In addition to school pride, the 2009-10 staff of Utsalady is dedicated to meeting the needs of each and every student. Building-wide, students are receiving weekly character education through the use of the Second Steps curriculum. Through this program students learn about problem solving, “I Messages…” and discover ways to interact and self-manage their own behavior so they are better prepared for learning.
Academically, the Stanwood-Camano School District has adopted Math Expressions, a math curriculum aligned to the new Washington State Math Performance Expectations. Each teacher has been trained and continues to receive training on how to use the curriculum to its fullest extent. In addition to the new math curriculum, the Utsalady staff has dedicated 30-minutes, 4 days a week, to math interventions at each grade level. “Math & Me” (M & M) is a time where all students are met at their personal level, high or low. These groups are flexible and give targeted instruction focused on the needs of the specific students in each group. Through teamwork, intentional planning and engaging student work, Utsalady continually assesses each child, monitors academic growth and adjusts instruction to improve student success.
Utsalady Elementary’s Mission Statement:
Together we teach, learn and grow.
